The FBI on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 released new still images and video of an armed subject captured by a Nest doorbell camera in night vision mode at the front door of Nancy Guthrie’s home in Catalina Foothills, Arizona indicating a likely connection to the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie.

The images show a person with a pullover knit mask/hat over their face, and rubber, nitrile or vinyl gloves — likely black or dark blue. The knit mask portion has a cutout hole for each eye and the mouth. The person walks slightly crouched while approaching the front door, and while in the process takes care to keep their masked face pointing downward to avoid direct facial appearance in the direction of the camera. The person of interest also appears to have a flashlight in their mouth.

The person is also wearing a fully-packed, zipped up backpack with some reflective material on the straps. A holstered handgun is located directly above the person’s crotch.

The FBI stated, “Working with our partners – as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.

A note received by TMZ reportedly contained a specific cryptocurrency address for payment, which TMZ confirmed is real and active (the address was not published).

There is a common misconception that Bitcoin is anonymous. Cryptocurrency transactions (including Bitcoin) are permanently recorded on shared digital records called blockchains, which cannot be altered without changing all subsequent blocks, including a network consensus validation. Therefore, the technical system of Bitcoin transactions can be traced. When a ransom payment is made in Bitcoin, the FBI can observe the transaction on the blockchain in real time, tracking the exact amount paid, the wallet that received it, and any subsequent transfers or transactions. Investigators then use blockchain-analysis tools to map how the funds are split, combined or moved across any number of addresses. Criminals are unlikely to be able to hide their tracks by simply scattering the funds and transactions. While wallet addresses are not linked to names (hence the misconception that Bitcoin is anonymous), once an address is connected to a real-world identity, the entire transaction history connected to the address becomes visible with multiple forensic methods that connect a wallet address to its owner.

A Bitcoin wallet address is connected to an identity primarily through “Know Your Customer” (KYC) procedures at cryptocurrency exchanges (such as Coinbase, the largest US-based cryptocurrency exchange), where personal information is linked to transactions, and blockchain analysis traces usage patterns. Although addresses are pseudonymous, they are not anonymous, as all transactions are public, which permits analysis to connect the wallet addresses to real-world entities.

Coinbase has over 100 million users. Individuals can attempt to protect privacy by using a unique address for every transaction, using privacy tools that hide the individual’s IP address, and by using non-custodial wallets that avoid cryptocurrency exchanges that hold an individuals personal information. If privacy protection methods are used, a successful investigation that connects to the perpetrators can be difficult. One complication could be international transactions involving countries that are not helpful with criminal investigations, or are not friendly with the United States.

Pima County Sheriff’s deputies responded about noon Sunday, February 1, 2026 to a report a missing person after the family of Nancy Guthrie reported they last saw her at home near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue in Catalina Foothills, Arizona northeast of Tucson around 9:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2026.

The weekend disappearance of “TODAY” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, age 84, on January 31, 2026 is being investigated as a “crime,” according to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen Saturday night in her home outside Tucson, according to a missing person’s flyer. She was reported missing by her family around noon Sunday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said.

Nancy Guthrie is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

“We do in fact have a crime scene. We do in fact have a crime,” Sheriff Nanos said at a news conference Monday, further describing, “She did not leave on her own. We know that.”

Search resources used include drones, an airplane, a helicopter, volunteers and search and rescue dogs loaned from CBP.

The sheriff urged neighbors to “go through their Ring cameras,” and stated that investigators are also examining video images from the security system at Nancy Guthrie’s home.

Sheriff Nanos said Nancy Guthrie needs to take medication on a daily basis to survive. “It could be fatal” if she does not take her medication, he said.

Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance was not linked to dementia, according to Sheriff Nanos. He described her as being “of sound mind” and “sharp as a tack.”

The sheriff did not confirm whether neighbors are safe or not.

During the press conference question-and-answer period Monday morning, February 2, 2026, Nanos did not provide additional details on the investigation even when media personnel requested additional information, such as “what were the signs at the home that indicate a crime occurred.”

Nanos asked members of the public to contact authorities if they have information about the case, and even take a picture or video if they see a person they think might by Nancy Guthrie.

Anyone with information urged to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
